CUPERTINO, California / ConSynSer / – Apple has introduced a new MacBook Pro with a tandem OLED display and touch input, making it the first Mac to support touch. The 14- and 16-inch models feature what Apple calls the PROLED XDR Display. The screen reaches up to 2,000 nits of peak HDR and SDR brightness and a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio. The laptops run on M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Pre-orders opened on October 28, with availability from Friday, November 6.

Apple chief hardware officer Johny Srouji called the new MacBook Pro a monumental step forward for the Mac. He said the PROLED XDR panel pairs tandem OLED technology with advanced algorithms in Apple’s display engine. Srouji said Touch and the new chips give professionals a whole new way to interact with their content. He credited the deep integration between Apple silicon, hardware and software. Apple last refreshed its thinner laptop line when it unveiled the MacBook Air M4 in March 2025.
The display engine controls the colour and brightness of every pixel at the sub-millisecond level. ProMotion technology varies the refresh rate from as low as 10Hz up to 120Hz. The panel covers both the P3 and Adobe RGB colour spaces and more than 80% of Rec. 2020. Apple said this makes the laptop a portable reference display for photographers, colourists and designers. An optional nano-texture finish is now etched into the cover glass to reduce glare.
Touch and the Dynamic Island reach the Mac
The touch sensor is built directly into the display panel rather than layered on top, which Apple said reduces latency. Users can swipe to scroll, pinch to zoom and double-tap a window to fill the screen. Designers can draw across the whole display, while musicians can play software instruments onscreen. macOS automatically translates touches into clicks, so many existing apps work right away. Apps such as Microsoft Word, Zoom, Canva, Adobe Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve and Blender are set to add Touch support later this year.
The Dynamic Island also moves from iPhone to the Mac. It becomes the home for Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri AI, Apple’s more conversational assistant. The redesigned laptops are thinner and lighter, with the 14-inch model weighing 3 pounds and the 16-inch model 4 pounds. Slimmer borders lift the screen sizes to 14.2 inches and 16.3 inches. Apple rates battery life at up to 24 hours. Fast charging restores up to 50% in 30 minutes.
M5 Pro and M5 Max drive on-device AI
Apple calls M5 Pro and M5 Max its most powerful chips built for a pro laptop. They support up to 128GB of unified memory, and storage now reaches 16TB. Each GPU core includes a Neural Accelerator to speed up AI workloads. Apple said M5 Max can run large language models with hundreds of billions of parameters entirely on device. The chips follow the M3 MacBook Pro lineup launched in 2023. A redesigned six-speaker system adds 50% deeper bass, and connectivity includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports and Wi-Fi 7.
The 14-inch model with M5 Pro starts at $2,899 in the U.S., while the 16-inch M5 Pro version starts at $3,399. M5 Max models start at $4,499 for the 14-inch and $4,799 for the 16-inch. Pre-orders are open in 30 countries and regions, including the U.S. The laptops ship with macOS 27 and Apple Intelligence features. Apple said the device contains 55% recycled content, including a 100% recycled aluminium enclosure. Australian pricing was not included in the announcement.
